Should I rent a trumpet or buy one?

I’m taking band class this year. Should I rent a trumpet for a year, or just buy one that I can have?

I am thinking about picking up trumpet again and need some help?

I used to play trumpet about two years ago and quit when i graduated high school and started college. I am thinking about picking it back up but I live in a dorm and don’t want to bother my roommates and neighbors. Does anyone have a cheap doable solution to this problem? Thanks!!

you’ll need to get a practice mute for your trumpet. there’s heaps of diffferent brands out there. i’ve heard these ones are quite good

you’re after the ’stealth’ mutes about halfway down the page.

for a more expensive option you have this

the advantage of this is you can (apparently) hear the sound properly in the headphones and you won’t have any back pressure that you can get with non electronic mutes.

you can also make your own practice mute, but they never work as well as the bought ones.

either that or some universities offer practice rooms for these situations. they’re free, but you have to book in advance a time to practice.
